Living room organic design in a Texas Ranch guest house

The Texas Ranch Guest House We’re Dreaming Of

Nothing makes me happier than seeing an interior designer’s personal home. This Texas ranch guest house does not disappoint. Ginger Curtis of Urbanology Designs created this earthy and ethereal retreat on her personal property, secretly tucked away on 6 acres outside of Dallas. The designer’s primary goal was a multifunctional space. The guest cottage needed to function as an office, guest retreat, and additional living space.

A Texas Ranch Guest House, Twice as Nice

Always pushing the boundaries in her personal spaces, Ginger focused on materiality. It took more than one iteration to get this ranch inspired space just perfect. The original iteration was dark and moody, with deep green painted built-ins. As dark and moody continues to trend in the interiors space, Ginger says “A room will tell you what it wants. This Texas ranch guest house needed to be bright, organic and sun filled.”

Back to the Roots

Ginger refocused on her primary love of bright, airy, and organic spaces. When it came to the redesign, she took a Wabi Sabi approach. Less is more here. The walls are painted Alabaster by Sherwin Williams throughout the space. The kitchen cabinets are painted Moscow Midnight and provide a punctuated contrast to the rest of the airy space.

The bedroom is spacious and layered in collected artifacts. Lush layered bedding makes for the perfect accompaniment to hot days and cool nights. The plaster treatment in the bathroom my be my favorite detail. Providing the perfect creamy background to the layers of materiality throughout the rest of the space, it feels true to Texas ranch roots.

Punctuating the minimal and refined space with textural treasures collected on monthly antiquing trips with her small children. A combination of custom pieces, vintage finds and modern craftsmanship, this guest cottage blends styles in a way that feels quintessentially Texan.
