Bedding Upgrade

We just got a bedding upgrade. We’ve always taken our bedding pretty seriously – only purchasing natural fabrics (mostly linen) and organic down comforters and pillows. What I hadn’t taken into consideration, was the health and quality of our mattress. For something that we spend 30% of our lives in, I couldn’t believe I’d been so focused on what we were sleeping in, I was overlooking what we were sleeping on.

Having just upgraded our guest bedroom, Polysleep reached out to collaborate, I knew it was the perfect time! Our bed had always felt comfortable, but in hindsight, my lower back hurt frequently and I was constantly hot in bed. I work really late and my husband Quinn goes to bed early, so when I climbed into bed, I almost always woke him.

MATTRESS UPGRADE

Polysleep sent us a new king size mattress and 7 days in, our life is different. Here is why we love it:

  • The top layer regulates body temperature and keeps us cool – our bedroom gets the worst circulation in the house, so I was always blasting the AC before going to bed. I haven’t had to adjust our thermostat since switching mattresses.
  • There is a sturdy foam “frame” that wraps the entire mattress, so you can sit on the edge and put on your shoes without it sinking in.
  • There was NO smell after opening the mattress. Our previous memory foam mattresses had needed to air out for 48 hours before you could sleep on them… and when you think about that? EW – what the heck was in them?! According to their website, Polysleep mattresses are made without ozone depletes, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead and other heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They are also Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million). Opening the packing + not having any smell? I believe it.
  • It’s so comfortable. I’d describe it like an open faced sandwich. The base layer is a firm foam, that provides stability and support, but then there are multiple layers above, which shape to our bodies. It feels soft to the touch, but keeps my spine aligned (and straightened out after 14+ hours on the computer). Best part – when Quinn moves, I can’t feel it.

Once we upgraded the mattress, I had an itch to redecorate (typical). BUT NOW I NEED YOUR HELP! I don’t know what to put above our bed, or what type of bedding to go with!

We rearranged the furniture in our bedroom (see the previous arrangement here). Now we have a tall solid wall above our headboard instead of those ugly little windows. The bed currently is on my hat wall, but I’m not sure I love them up above the headboard. I’m thinking an oversized landscape or seascape framed print will be better?

I’m considering this one (she’s an Austin artist!), this one or this one. Then we’d move the pieces above the end tables to another space in the house, and let the one oversized piece shine.

Then – I need help decided what to do about our bedding! Once we decide on art, it’s time to decide the color palette for our bedding and pillows. Below, I’ve included a few more shots of what our bedding currently is, and below that, I’ve rounded up three new options based up on the new artwork.

So those are the three options we’ve narrowed down to, but we need your help! In the comments below, leave your favorite pick: Option 1, Option 2 or Option 3! Any and all other suggestions welcome 💕 My biggest advice when upgrading your bedding – don’t forget to upgrade your mattress. Everything else comes secondary.

Option 1 is definitely my fave of the three. You’ve got such a great eye, you really can’t go wrong!

You’re so so so sweet, Katie! Thank you! I love Option 1 as well 💕 But Option 2 + 3 sounded fun too bc they were a little different… a little unexpected. Thanks so much for taking the time to read + vote! XOXO

  2. Hilary says:

Anastasia! Gorgeous options! I actually love Option #1 for bedding choices. I am totally into Feng Shui for my house since it’s all about creating good energy in the right places (totally disregard this if you don’t believe in Feng Shui). But one thing that is super clear in Feng Shui is not water elements in the bedroom, especially a water seascape of any kind over the bed…it creates tension and hardship in your romantic relationship! Just wanted to give you a heads up! xoxoxo

  3. Jenn says:

    I love #2!

  4. LaToya says:

Loving option #1. The French linen sheets and the fringed coverlet with so the great texture just seem so cozy and welcoming.

    Ugh forgive my typos. 😊
