An Interview with Eureka of My Cozy Corner

You might recognize Eureka Haney by her popular Instagram page and online shop, My Cozy Corner. As an interior decorator, shop owner, and founder of the My Cozy Corner brand, Eureka has built up a loyal following (over 50k followers, to be exact) by sharing glimpses into her home defined by its layered, tonal, and decidedly cozy style.

While Eureka’s passion for interiors began organically, starting her own business required a significant career pivot from medical billing. One thing led to another, and Eureka soon found herself thriving in the world of e-commerce, selling a tightly curated collection of decor, home goods, and furniture.

Today, we’re catching up with Eureka to discuss her unconventional career journey, the inspiration behind her signature aesthetic, and what’s next for her ever-growing brand.

An Interview with Eureka Haney of My Cozy Corner

Tell us how you first got your start in the interior design industry and how the My Cozy Corner Shoppe was born.

My first break in interior design started with a friend that saw my house and asked me to help style hers. I owned a medical billing company at the time and really enjoyed switching my decor from time to time. From there, word of mouth traveled, and I started getting recommendations to decorate doctor offices and homes.

The My Cozy Corner Shoppe was born through me wanting to sell some of my decor pieces that were well loved but just not used anymore. The shop took off better than I expected and it just stuck.

How would you describe the MCC signature aesthetic?

I think the MCC aesthetic is hard to describe. My personal decor is a mixture of modern, vintage, and a few eclectic pieces. I would have to say the shop mirrors that as well. However, with the shop, I lean more towards old-world vintage.

Making e-commerce happen in the shelter space can involve many logistical challenges. Do you have any advice about e-commerce you wish you’d known starting out?

E-commerce has definitely had its challenges. For us, the main challenges we face are based on the ripple effects of the pandemic. My general advice would be:

  • Take the time to research your wholesalers before opening
  • Order sample products
  • Calculate lead times

From where do you draw your design inspiration?

I gather my design inspiration from nature. For me, decorating is a feeling. Colors of the season, wood tones, textures and fabrics—all these elements give you a different feeling based on where they’re placed or how they’re used. I’m a huge spring and summer fan, so naturally, I feel like some of the best inspo for my decor comes around this time.

What are your favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

I have so many, but off the top of my head:

@amberinteriors

@milkandhoneylife

@seekinglavenderlane

When you aren’t working, what would we find you doing?

Working, haha! Sad to say that I’m always working. I do make time for my family so I can smother them with kisses. If I take time off work when I’m alone, it’s usually for a mini spa trip with friends to de-stress and regroup.

Tell us about your favorite space in your own home.

My favorite space is the living room. It’s the only room I feel is complete and exactly how I envisioned it.

Tell us a favorite recent trend. How about a timeless one?

I’m in love with textured shearling chairs. A timeless piece would be vintage pots.
