As Hurricane Harvey heads full force into the Texas Coast, we’re sending all our prayers and good vibes to our friends on the Gulf. We’ll be safe and sound here in Austin, but we’re cozying up for a weekend of intense rains and flash floods, which has us in full-fall mode. Since we still have a couple more months of Texas heat, we have to start getting creative on how we bring the richness of fall into our still-100-degrees-outside homes.
For today’s Friday Five, I’ve rounded up my favorite five pins of the week inspired by rainy days and fall feels. I’m really feeling olive and moss greens for fall – and you can shop everything in my fall capsule wardrobe here.
MOSS GREEN VELVET
The first thing we think of with fall is texture. Lots and lots of layers in contrasting textures. This mossy green mid-century sofa is an absolute show stopper (the other hues are just as dreamy) and totally affordable. How dreamy with an oversized knit throw and a seagrass rug? Here is an even more affordable option on sale at Target and an even cheaper option on sale at Urban Outfitters.
FERNS
While we haven’t build a greenhouse yet (definitely on the to-do list when we get around to buying a house), they are still one of the most magical spaces there are. Until then, we snagged three for the house last weekend and placed them in black ceramic pots around the house in darker corners. They need almost no care and just a few good mists of water. Obsessed with this geometric option from H&M (their home line is swoon worthy), and this tall version to add some height.
WELLIES
Wellies. Duh. We keep a few pairs on the porch because our street floods so often (counting on it this weekend, again, too). Until it cools down, we layer them with white jeans or flowy skirts before we can get away with layering in some flannel.
Here are our favorites for fall: these, these, these, these and these.
DEWY SKIN
The best part about rainy summer days is what it does for your skin. The humidity makes everyone a little glowier, skin softer, and the summer makes skin a little browner. This French Girl Lumiére Body Oil is our new favorite and we’ve been wearing it every day. It smells like heaven and is all natural, organic, and made in Seattle.
GREEN KITCHENS
Green kitchens have been popping up all over the place lately, but this Pin was by far my favorite. The minimalist take on such a classic color is modern yet warm. Paired with the industrial steel black framed doors and the mid-century light fixture, this kitchen feels anything but traditional.
