For the first year ever, we’re spent this holiday season at home. Although it wasn’t exactly by choice, we did our best to embrace it. Having a bit extra time at home has given me the chance to finally update our guest bedroom (for when we can actually host guests again). This space is what you see as you walk up our stairs, and it’s always felt a bit “off” from the rest of our home. Since redoing the kitchen, guest bathroom, and our primary suite, it’s previous beachy vibes really needed a redesign.
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you may have seen the printer ink catastrophe of 2020. Essentially, Kennedy chewed up a magenta ink toner throughout the 2nd floor of our home, ruining three area rugs. When Revival Rugs reached out, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to add some cozy depth to this space. I had no idea that not only does Revival Rugs have the largest collection of vintage rugs I’ve ever seen, but they also have an exclusive collection of their own hand woven designs.
The space had always been very minimal before, with tone on tone bedding against an ivory headboard. Things felt washed out and didn’t have the visual interest I knew I wanted to add to the space. To combat this, I sourced this beautiful Flatweave Wool 9×12 Rug called The Ledger from Revival Rug’s Revival Made collection. It’s 100% natural sheeps wool, undyed, and low shed. It has a beautiful broken geometric pattern to it and it was just the saturation I needed in this space. Save 10% off your order at Revival Rugs with code THEIDENTITE10. The next step to update this space was to add some more dimension on the bed itself. To balance out the beautiful moody warm tones of the Revival Ledger Rug, I needed to bring some contrast to the headboard. This may be the easiest DIY I’ve ever tackled and it made such an immense impact! I “reupholstered” the queen size bed’s linen headboard by taking a linen throw blanket, folding it evenly over the headboard and using safety pines to secure it to itself up the sides. 10 minutes, 10 safety pins and 1 throw blanket later, I feel like the bed was completely transformed! I’ve been itching for a new bed in this space for a while now, but I’m thinking these changes will hold me over for the foreseeable future.
