Ever since its rise to popularity around 2019, mushroom has become the new darling of kitchen design. It’s a grey-meets-beige color tone defined by tasteful elegance that pairs beautifully with a wide variety of countertop selections. Mushroom is surpassing the longstanding classic white kitchen, and the result is a warmer, cozier version of neutral.
On the hunt for mushroom paint colors to kickstart the selection process? You’ve come to the right place. While our own Anastasia Casey opted for Greige by Clare as the winner for her kitchen renovation, we’ve outlined a range of designer-approved picks from light to dark shades.

Opting for mushroom kitchen cabinetry doesn’t have to make a bold statement. So many of our favorite shades feature just a hint of putty for a ‘barely there’ hue. Elephant’s Breath by Farrow and Ball offers a soft whisper of mushroom, while City Loft by Sherwin Williams gives off a similar effect. Just add brass hardware for a true designer look.

Let’s take things a tad moodier with mushroom paint colors that fall into the medium tone range. We’re super partial to Greige by Clare (as seen in Anastasia’s kitchen renovation), but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Whether you pick a mushroom that leans more gray or more brown, you’ll love the sense of warmth it brings to the entire space.

If you are looking for more heightened contrast, a dark shade of mushroom will do just the trick. We love how Light and Dwell Interiors used Naturel by Sherwin Williams (featured above) with a black countertop for a moody, earthy aesthetic. It brings just enough drama while still feeling entirely neutral.
