You might remember we included purple paint colors in our design trend predictions for 2021. And sure enough, we’re gradually seeing more purple-toned design moments come onto the scene. From kitchens to bathrooms and even main living spaces, purple is getting an elevated rebrand thanks to talented designers who aren’t afraid to take a risk.
But like nearly every paint color, it can be ridiculously tricky to nail down the right shade. Luckily, we’re here to eliminate all the guesswork with ten solid options that won’t steer you wrong. Mark our words: purple can be sophisticated, and these paint colors are the proof.

If you are hoping to try out purple on more subtle terms, these are the color shades for you. While both Wink and Elephants Breath fall more into the gray-ish family, Mystical Shade and Evening Skyline both give off a distinctly purple look with a soft and peaceful vibe.

There’s something so feminine and fresh about a great shade of mauve. One part purple and one part pink, mauve can work just about anywhere throughout your home. Try it out in a small powder room for heightened impact, or even in a main living space, if you feel so bold. PS – Lauren Caisley Interiors shared her space (featured above) used Rouge II by Paint & Paper Library, and it’s quickly become one of our personal faves.

Taking cues from deep shades of navy that have swept across design, dark and moody plums are ready for their close-up. These admittedly bold shades aren’t for the faint of heart but can look incredibly sophisticated when featured in just the right space. Chris Loves Julia recently brought Expressive Plum into the spotlight, while Amazon Soil is another great choice for a rich and velvety look. When in doubt, we say bring on the drama.

You all are so on it! The purple trend is definitely creeping in. Just got a couple of blasts from fashion retailers showing purple items. In the old days, interior color trends would follow fashion trends, a season or two behind but in the last few years , interior colors and fashion trends are going hand in hand. Maybe it’s more noticeable now because we’ve all been stuck in our homes and everything is blending together! I can’t get on board with mauve, I lived through the 80’s but love the deeper purples mixed with brass. That powder room you posted is gorgeous.
We’re totally with you on that deep purple + brass combination! Can’t wait to see more of it show up in design!
I love periwinkle and grayed down purple but must admit I get tired of this color easily in my home.
Good point, Mar! We’re super curious to see if these purple tones have staying power in the long run.
