Thanksgiving Style: What I’m Wearing

For me, the best style week of the year is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving style is the perfect combination of casual and cozy with a hint of holiday glitz. I have mixed emotions going into this week – we’re in a new house, we aren’t with our families, and we’re hosting our first Thanksgiving ourselves. This marks the beginning of new Thanksgiving traditions for the Casey family, so we’ve invited all our friends here in Austin to join us. To help make it feel like a normal Thanksgiving, I’ve planned a few special events for the weekend. And to make it feel like a true holiday weekend – I’ve planned the week’s wardrobe. Catch my table inspiration here. Below, you can catch my personal favorites for Thanksgiving weekend style.

BRUNCH DURING THE PARADE

It’s a family tradition to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Since we’re not heading home to San Francisco this year, we’re having our closest friends over to watch the parade and have a casual brunch. So – I’m cozying up in this oversized flannel, these boyfriend jeans (under $30!) and velvet tennies.

DINNER: THANKSGIVING STYLE

Not going to lie… I’m a little nervous about hosting my first Thanksgiving. Both Quinn and I are blessed to come from homes that have spectacular holiday meals with lots of laughs. We’ll miss our families dearly this week, but we’ll be hosting friends in Austin that are also trans-plants. It’s a year for new traditions as we break in our new home.

I’m keeping my Thanksgiving style somewhere between casual and put together this year with a pleated navy skirt, slouchy sweater, mules and a purple lip. I’ve preset the table, prepped as much as I can, and crossed my fingers I don’t mess anything up. No matter how it turns out – we have an incredible amount to be thankful for.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY SHOPPING

This year, all our holiday shopping will be done at small businesses. Here at IDCO, we work exclusively with small businesses. From fair trade boutiques and vintage rug collectors, to interior designers, our business is built on small business. So, we’re skipping Black Friday all together and shopping on Saturday at our favorite local boutiques. This Thanksgiving weekend, I’ll be picking up a few favorites from Drift Home Collection and APT F for collected home goods,  Stag Provisions for my husband and dad, The Southern Loom for my sister, The Paper + Craft Pantry for my girlfriends, and Kettle + Brine for hostess gifts.

For my day of shopping – I’m wearing comfy white cords, a draped green sweater, knee high boots, a cross body bag to keep my hands free and a wool fedora. Quinn and I are hoping to sneak into the hill country to have our holiday photos taken and this outfit feels perfect for it.

ELF MOVIE PARTY

Huge top secret: we are obsessed with Alamo Drafthouse and go literally every week. We’re kicking off the holiday season officially this weekend with an Elf Movie Party. These are seriously the most fun ever – full on props, themed menu, and singalong. Nerd alert.

Since it’s our first official holiday event of the year I’m getting dressed up for date night. I’m rocking my favorite dark wash denim, a black and white flannel, double breasted blazer and patent mules.
